Well, Everybody knows that a.b = |a||b|cos(theta) and we have been learning it since school days. I am student and and i just wanted to know how it is derived. I mean i just wanted to check if my concept of the proof which i have solved is matching.

thanks

This may be too much information at once, but it is explained on the MathWorld entry for Dot Product. Someone else on this site might be able to give a simpler explanation though.

hey, im really interested in this as well... could someone explain a little simpler maybe... as i asked in my last post, i'm sure its all related to understanding how the trig functions work...

but basically the dot product is a projection... that's as much as i know...

but hey, would love to hear a little more on this Smile

No problem. Between MathWorld and Wikipedia, you can usually find a pretty good (if sometimes overly technical) answer to almost any basic math question (and a lot of more advanced ones too). Smile
