hiho
im new here, but i just noticed a little thing that would make this forum a bit cooler..(if that is possible.. )
ehm.. i joined another forum some months ago, and they had like smal worms under the name/forumstatus (like "forumfreshman"). A good status(with many posts/topics) had many worms, and newbies had just one. I dont want us to have worms under our names, but you can take something better.. like circels or stars or whatever..
I liked that. It made me post more posts
just an idea
tell me if u liked it _________________

I'd be a bit overun then. I'd have to have galaxies and not stars. I think Ophiolite will need a whole universe under his name in such circumstance. _________________ "Victory is in trying. Defeat is in not". - SVRDW. |

true, but it could be different looking symbols. dunno.. like stars(just an example)
a newbie has one star with 5 spikes.
when he gets better status -> 2 stars with 5 spikes
better status-> 3 stars with 5 spikes
then the same thing with 6 spikes (he gets one star with 6 spikes)
then maybe the same thing with red stars (he gets one red star with 5 spikes)
then maybe same thing with planets? (blabla)
and moderators and admin can have a sun? or a moon? dunno x)
ok? xD _________________

I think admin considered a member rating system - not by posts but by member vote. That might be in the works.
Wasn't The Science Forum supposed to change to new software? |

Yes but it still needs development and the admin have been busy with other things. (There is only IS who is active). _________________ "Victory is in trying. Defeat is in not". - SVRDW. |

I'm not 100% sold on the new software yet, so I kind of want to wait and see how many new mods come out for it..bug fixes..etc. Plus we just added Latex support here and that would need to be added to the new software as well. _________________ Pleased to meet you. Hope you guess my name |

Believe me, it's funnier with a rating system _________________

trust me, you're better off without - there's already enough aggro in this forum, we don't need to add to it by adding a points system _________________ if you find this place too crowded or too confrontational, how about trying Philosophorum,

I think a member rating system would lead to some members thinking they are either better or more intelligent than others and would lead to things like "noobs" and such that you see in quite a lot of other forums. I'd like to see the posts in the sidebar by a member be optionally shown with the default being that they not be shown. It would lead to a greater discussion on the topics at hand and not lead to people being over egotistical merely because they have more posts than the person they are arguing against. _________________ "The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt" - Bertrand Russell |

You mean like me not having a bar, or post numbers in general? _________________ "Victory is in trying. Defeat is in not". - SVRDW. |

i can see where you're coming from - i've already seen instances where people think a member is a real professor just because their title is forum professor + it might just have an intimidating effect on people new to the forum (i absolutely hate the word noob)
personally i'd like to see my far too pompous title of cosmic wizard changed to something less reverential like "cosmic itch" or "old fish face"
after all, the fact that i've posted quite a few posts here doesn't give me a direct line to the truth _________________ if you find this place too crowded or too confrontational, how about trying Philosophorum,

I think it's kind of fun that you and a few others have unique status names - and especially if post count wasn't included, that might tell new people you've been around a while but it might not be as intimidating. Though I can see how "cosmic wizard" might be a bit much. _________________ Man can will nothing unless he has first understood that he must count on no one but himself; that he is alone, abandoned on earth in the midst of his infinite responsibilities, without help, with no other aim than the one he sets himself, with no other destiny than the one he forges for himself on this earth.

Well why can't we have a rating system with + and - ?
all members with let's say over 100 posts can give other members - and + points, for forexample smart thoughts or - for acting bad..
When people give points, they need to write down an explanation .
Status example:

We've discussed using a rating system on this forum before. We agreed there was just too much potential for abuse, and none of us were that interested in it anyway. _________________ Man can will nothing unless he has first understood that he must count on no one but himself; that he is alone, abandoned on earth in the midst of his infinite responsibilities, without help, with no other aim than the one he sets himself, with no other destiny than the one he forges for himself on this earth.
