When you see a worm trying to wiggle it's way out of a hole what is your reaction?

Do you

a) ignore it

b) observe a while

c) help it out

d) stomp on it

While seemingly irrelevant, the answers here are deeply revealing of your character.

Please do express how you treat wiggling worms and if frame of mind at that moment makes a significant difference.

I personally like worms, and so observe them and then relocate them to a nice planter where I can benefit from their wiggling action.

If I have the time and it's an interesting worm, I'll go for b.) otherwise a.)

Reasons similar to Kalster's, I love nature but I try to interfere as little as possible (if you can say this considering our lifestyles)

Glance and walk off. Although if one is on street I'll chuck it back into the grass, (less obvious to birds then and gives it more time to burrow). If its not in danger, I won't interfere.

Yeah we all know you bring 'em back to your pad, ToR. Laughing

In my work, I inadvertently encase bugs in glue, concrete, resins. I used to scoot them away, but their dopey determination to walk straight into foaming volatile gassing chemicals hardened me. I let them go where they wish. If they won't evolve aversion to toxins, that's their problem.

Anyway, I don't "help" nature. If the cat's got a live bird, I let things play out as they will. I reckon if one feeds wild birds, one begins to own them. I don't want to own them.

Finally, it comes down to mess. If a worm's likely to get smeared on the doormat, I'll "rescue" the worm.

My son persists in bringing critters home. I share his fascination, but also try and convince him that these creatures can't live as humans in houses... he does not believe me. Little caterpillar tent of cardboard on the pillow, stocked with lettuce. Gah.

Loving these replies Smile

So to summarise

we have a few worm lovers in the house and one who is ambivalent to worms, take em or leave em, prefers to leave em.

Let us now reflect on how this treatment of worms might reflect our personalities Smile

a) ignore it - chemist

b) observe a while - biologist

c) help it out - physicist

d) stomp on it - small child!

More careers than personalities!? Can anyone do better!?

Surely a chemist would do something far more interesting, involving salt perhaps. Likewise, wouldn't a physicist be interested in the structural properties of the worm? How much force is required to pull a worm from a hole, for example.

Here's an article for the worm enthusiasts amongst us:
