If you are a science/applied science (engineering, medicine etc.) student how much do you value your GPA score from a scale of 1-10?

An 8 lol, the GPA is pretty important, you don't need a 4.0 but it sure as damn well makes things a lot easier.

Could someone maybe explain to a non-american how the grade point average is calculated? They always mention it in movies, but I never know what it means. Confused

90 = A = 4.0
80 = B = 3.0
70 = C = 2.0
60 = D = 1.0

For most colleges, anyways.

Thanks. Why don't they simply say 91, 88 or 74? And is that the average over all the subjects taken or for each one, maybe the relevant ones?

It actually changes depending on the university.

Edit: it's different than percentages because it kind of lumps everything under a fail together.

Still in the dark a bit Confused

In South Africa I am used to this classification of symbols:

A = 80 -> 100
B = 70 -> 79
C = 60 -> 69
D = 50 -> 59
E = 40 -> 49

Yours?

Rofl, it's kind of funny, the student union voted to change one of the buildings to the "Shatner building" but the university refused lol.
