Hi there. I'm doing a study predominantly based on questionnaires (already validated and well used etc). I was wondering under what conditions it is necessary to calculate Cronbach's alpha (internal consistency)?
Not all papers appear to do it, but most do. I appreciate that it varies by dataset, but I'm using a normally distributed population so I'm not sure if I need to do it.
If this isnt the correct place, can anyone direct me to somewhere/someone that may be able to provide help?
Thanks in advance |

My knowledge of statistics is woefully inadequate. I have not even heard of Cronbach's alpha. This suggests to me this is fairly advanced stats. (???). There are a few soldid maths types on the forum, but if no response turns up in a day or two could you ask your teacher (?) current or former? _________________ The Universe is not only weirder than we imagine it is weirder than we can imagine. | It looks like you probably don't need to calculate Cronbach's alpha, since your questionnaires are well used and validated. I mean, this suggests that someone has already calculated Cronbach's alpha for the questionnaires and was satisfied with the result. The only reason you would need to calculate this statistic, in my estimation, is if you suspected that your sample population may for some reason interpret or react to the questionnaires differently than the populations which have been the subject of said questionnaires in the past. |
