I haven't shared any of my videos yet, so I'll throw this out - a blend of art and science.
Creating Rainbow Art with Thin Film Interference (accopanying video)
Materials:
black posterboard
clear nail polish
pan of water
1. Submerge the posterboard in the water.
2. Drop nail polish onto the water. Sacrifice a eye dropper for bigger drops and films. The drop will float, spread out into a film, and then begin to dry. Like oil in a puddle, it will have thickness on the order of the wavelength of light - producing thin film interference.
3. Carefully lift the sheet, starting at one end, to collect the films.
4. Let dry for several hours.
Kind of a kiddy experiment, yes, but still some beautiful results. The colors are really spectacular. I already tried framing one, and might actually make some accents out of it - it's actually fairly similar to this glass art plate I bought. _________________ Celtic Mad Scientist

That was very good . The most simplest of things can seem so beautiful at times. _________________ "Victory is in trying. Defeat is in not". - SVRDW. |

in india, the ‘art of painting’ has deep historical roots traced back to the mesolithic time, about 10, 000 years ago. some of the richest treasures of early indian paintings are found on the walls of the ajanta caves in western india. from ajanta, ideas in paintings were spread across the length and breadth of the country over centuries, bringing several new elements and a synthesis of various ideas (miniature, realism, etc.) to the arts.
