According to this, scientists were issued 16 condoms per month each, less than 4 per week!! Let's assume 2 'events' an encounter , this assumes sex twice a week.
Is this the 'average' ?

If you actually read the article it says the 16,500 condoms would be distributed "throughout the year". It did not say this was the monthly supply.
It's also relevant to note that the accommodations at the polar bases is dormitory style, so there isn't much privacy.

Maybe privacy isn't their thing, group sex might be all the rage.

No one said it was monthly, that's where the 4 times per week calculation came from, although this assumes that every condom is used. |

Some were perhaps used as water bombs or for comic head gear.

Where there is a will theres a way, maybe the normal course of things, but its not like people down there can quickly go at it in some bushes. Perhaps they are just really keen on foreplay.

There must be filing cabinets they can climb inside, behind, on top of.
