According to Arthur C. Clarke, in Oliver Heaviside's "Electromagnetic Theory, Vol. 3, there appears a formula which functionally describes 'E' as being equal MC squared - only in less concise terms.
Clarke reckons Heaviside gets the jump on Einstein by many years.
a) Ever heard of this?
b) Any non-sneering informed topic-relevant comment? |

Actually, I do believe that the formula was derived by others before Einstein. The problem was with the how they derived it. The assumptions made led to problems when dealing with different reference frames.
Where Einstein succeeded where others had failed was by deriving the formula in a manner that remained consistent in all frames. _________________ "Men are apt to mistake the strength of their feelings for the strength of their argument.
