I was given this link from a friend. He suggested it as a good comparison with this forum, and I think it amply demonstrates why I am taking a hiatus.

Earlier this week I started a post on the concept of logic guidelines. Its purpose was to increase the standard of debate and discussion on this forum. When the discussion and flaming was over, and I opened a poll to gauge the support of better debate guidelines, I discovered I was the only one that wished for a higher standard.

I haven't gained much support during my stay. Yet one said I've made this forum a better place by my being here. Alas, it has become obvious I'm not making the posters better by being here.

With that, I say farewell for now. Farewell to the soapboxing/trolling/flaming/fallacies/politics/dogma/etc on this forum. I only wish I could say "farewell to the reasonable populace". A lot of you are intelligent, but being intelligent and being reasonable are two different qualities.

Grow up Jeremy...

You are guiltier than most here when it comes to flaming and insults, you are quite abusive when the mood takes you, hence you lack the respect from many that you desire.

With regard to your suggestion re LF's

Why don't you 'learn' from what the opposition to your idea said instead of assuming the win/lose stance.

It's really no big deal at the end of the day, our lives have moved on since that thread.

Jeremy, I don't want to sound smartass but if that forum compares to this one then why move over? Anyway goodluck.

By the way I typed in Pong , a really old computer game, in their search engine and came up with basically nothing.

nah, being reasonable sounds too much like hard work - mind you, trying to re-educate a whole forum populace into reasonableness sounds like a mammoth task

Noone can leave qiuetly anymore. It is the self righteousness of some that believe they are God that they don't.

Why do all the high standard of posters have such weak spines?

There is a hint of truth in this. First Guitarist... now hfht.

Guitarist was too serious in my opinion. And hfht may have been a little too passionate in his views.

And they both felt the need to announce their departure....

Cheers

About my avatar: This is a smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) simulation of the merger of two galaxies. The code was written by Volker Springel of the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics at Garching Germany. This simulation uses 20,000 disk particles (stars) and 40,000 halo particles (dark matter) per galaxy. The three views are, from left to right, the x-y plane, x-z plane, and y-z plane.

Moved to the Trash. These kinds of threads are against the rules, actually.

It's not nice to beat a dead horse, methinks.

Actually, you did not discover that you were the "only one that wished for a higher standard." You discovered that people didn't want logical fallacy police combing over their posts. There's a massive difference.

Wait...hang on hang on hang on....

You think there's a forum where, and I quote, "soapboxing/trolling/flaming/fallacies/politics/dogma/etc" doesn't exist?

When you wake up from that wet dream and come back to reality, good luck. lol

All you've done is found an alternative form of the same crap that goes on everywhere.

But whatever. If you don't like it here, there's no one keeping you here. If you think we're all just a bunch of "soapboxing/trolling/flaming/fallacies/politics/dogma/etc" people, why do you care if we wonder where you went? There's no need for a dramatic (and immature) exit.
