Um, mammals do agree on what is "cute".
And I'm sure we're simply irresistible to the infrared vision of mosquitoes. |

| Beauty is something completely subjective ofcourse. What we see is nothing but skin and bones with some dead matter we call hair on it, that's not beautiful or ugly per se. Evolution gave us some built-in mechanisms to percieve these collections of skin and hair as beautiful or ugly, otherwise we wouldn't have come far as a species. But that doesn't mean humans are beautiful or ugly per se. |

You have generalized this . So I would like to clarify if to the proper individuals only.
It is the Old Testament and the capitalists that are the scourge of the Earth.
So only political reform of our governments can bring some form of sanity to our lives.
That is why I wrote My Brand of Socialism to eliminate these self serving
OT derivitives. Our US Constitution made an attempt to do this but corrupt dollars have transformed our democracy into a republic.

After standing in my local bus station for twenty minutes waiting for my son I'm inclined to agree!
Are we now evolving towards webbed hands and feet, extraordinarily large ears and noses and eyes on our chins?
There seem to be whole families that look this way!
Humans can certainly behave ugly.
I know this to be true when i visit my town center on a Saturday night.
Which is why i don't anymore _________________ xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Beauty and ugliness are just words, they both are relative to one species to another. Any other creature on this planet currently doesn't understand the concept of ugly and beauty, so we are saying we are ugly, or beautiful is completley vague and ambiguous. Introduce exactly the point behind beauty and ugliness, se what extraterrestrial intelligent beings think, if they think anything of vanity and then make a conclusion, is there any point behind beauty and ugliness? For instance this video is a perfect example of relative ugliness:

Well, he only discriminates when I use the word 'billionaire'.
You will notice, I used the word 'capitalist'. Ha ha.

The meaning of the word 'ugly' as it is used, refers to the personally', rather than the physical meaning or form.
So, you have to understand the meaning of words as used in 'context'.
When applied to racial issues, 'fangs and claws' is ugly while 'hands' is good and a substitute for brains.

Still, ugly and beauty applied to even personalities are just words. Other words can be used to portray the same meaning. As I said, its all relative, like your opinion is your relative view, as mine is mine. _________________ "Laugh at life or it will laugh at you". - SVRDW. |

I would like to raise the term "Golden Ratio" into this colloquy. Nature seems to favour the Golden Ratio, as is seen on, for instance, some species of gastropoda, their shells are shaped using the golden ratio. Moreover, the human face is usually considered the more attractive the more it shows the signs of the golden ratio. _________________ "I have seen death's vistas and returned an even wiser, more exquisite man! Although I'm not sure about the role of this golden ratio, I do agree that some aspects of beauty are 'nature' rather than 'nurture'. Specifically, humans (and animals) recognize certain signs of health as making a person 'beautiful'. Symmetry is one of them. If one eye is a lot bigger than the other then this is very likely a symptom of a disease or malfunction. It's the same with most other body parts.
A more subtle one: humans like a certain ratio between the hips and the waist of a woman. This ratio correlates with high fertility (I can search for a source if needed, any pop psychological journal could write about this). A broad waist and thin hips is a sign of reduced fertility: I don't know about the waist, but very thin hips certainly don't help in childbirth.
Oliver, maybe this waist to hip ratio is related to the golden ratio? |

Could be so... The ancient greeks (sorry about the cliché) considered human's height being splendid if a horizontal line crossing the person's navel formed a golden ratio with the entire body. _________________ "I have seen death's vistas and returned an even wiser, more exquisite man! I've checked a lot of things for golden ratios. Both natural and artificial. Once found an ordinary-looking toilet scrub brush perfectly modeled on golden ratios in all its proportions, no coincidence to be sure! Some very underappreciated draughtspersons out there.
As for childbirthing hips, it is common wisdom in maternity wards that Asian women generally have "easy" deliveries. Yet the pelvic structure does not embody Western (Caucasian) ideal does it? |
