Let me tell you a story.

A kid was about 16 years old was making up for a test that he didn't finish the day before he was sick.

While he was doing the test some *** decided to throw paper at him. The teacher was at the other side of the room instructing and supervising other students. I told the teacher to that he threw an eraser at me. She said she would watch them.

He throws it at me again. I tell her again. She just talks to them. This time I get paper thrown at me again and I get REALLY angry and make a big deal out of it and yell at them. Teacher tells me to calm down.

It happens again and I tell the teacher. It happened right in front of her and she didn't see it. She then begins to pick one student out of the group behind me at random and send them to the office. Not getting rid of the actual cause of the problem. Even thought the kid said it wasnt' him. But he's just as guilty anyway because he didn't even tell who it was.

There are tons of more stories I could tell you. I have PDD so I shake my head and am kind of hyper active. I've received treatment so it's not so bad anymore. And, I could tell you how people just make fun of me and even teachers come up to me and ask me what the hell is my problem.

I hate this place. I hate these idiots. There pushing me. Sometimes, I think about coming to school with a rifle and blowing everyone to bits. *sigh*.

ok really the point of this topic is to debate how schooling in this way is even efficient. And, how they have not adapted very well to the new rush of diesease and disorders in the past 20 decades.

And, how can schooling be improved. Currently, the school board does nothing but jail and call the police on people with bi-polar and other disorders where outbursts or other problems may be apparant. They do nothing whatsoever to try and improve the situation for the student which they force to come to the school to learn anyway. So once there trapped in come to school and be treated like every other normal student , oh yeah we don't give a flying **** if you can't help the weird or strange things that may inhibit your learning we still will only half-*** an atempt of actually helping you.

It sounds very frustratin AnalogMan. There is no doubt that the educational system in all countries needs improving. Our intellect and our ability to learn complex things is what distinguishes us from the animals. However, it is education that maximise the benefits of these.

Do you have any thoughts on how things could be improved, especially for individuals with particular difficulties? Do we need more resources? A completely different approach? More training for the teachers, or a different kind of training?

I thought I covered this but I may have mis-conveyed some things. We need better trained special education staff. I know they get some training already but it seems like it's not enough. There is absoloutly no atempt at counciling only the Canadian government pays for this.

Do we need more resources?
Yea, most likely some sort of quiet room. Sadly, I know some of the kids with these disorders. Even if just kids are not bothering them they're mad. That's why I think perhaps if they childs parents could arrange it with the teachers so they could get assigned homework and instructions before hand and work in a isolated enviroment instead.

A completely different approach?
Ok, for one. It's probably best for the most severity of cases that their sent to another school for the safety and security of other students. But, I see them playing this card WAAAYYY too much.

And it makes the child and parents feel like there some kind of burden on the world when they're called everyday saying their child is out of control because they're admitting to themselves their to incompotent to do anything about it. And sadly the principals and teachers aren't even informed about such disoders in children so they approach you.

More training for the teachers, or a different kind of training?
Yeah, as I said earlier. Inform teachers of these disorders as well so they can act approprialy against mild cases. 3.5/4 of the teachers in the school board aren't even familiar with what autism or half these disorders are. It's pathetice and quite stupid when you start to think about how these people expect us to learn from them with so much of a lack of understanding between the two parties. It's bad enough their an entire different age group. Not that that's really a large impact but it is one.

What do you think about my suggestions?

Taking into account the media attention on school violence in the last few years, this is a very foolish, and dangerous, thing to write.

Good luck.

Part of high school is learning social skills as much as it is academics. Kids pick on those kids whom they know will give the reactions that entertain them.

To be blunt, you entertain the kid(s) throwing the erasers/paper. Special "training" for teachers is an interesting and, perhaps, futile subject. What training would you suggest? Who would pay for it? Teachers are the most underpaid professionals I know, yet many do the best they can with the resources they have. Moreover, much of the onus for the other kids behavior actually lies with you. Improve your reactions to their actions and you'll see a difference -it is, after all, only paper and erasers. Your life isn't in danger and, while distracting during a test, your best weapon is your head in such situations.

Learn to out-think guys like those.

And I must echo CaveatLector's point with regard to your comment. Certainly it is one that is innocent enough and out of frustration rather than true intent, but there are those that would recognize that those that have actually committed such acts began with "innocent comments" born of frustration.

I dress in an alternative fashion, so I know what its like to be taunted at high school. I've had bibles, water school books and all sorts of things thrown at me. Though is i think mainly because these people don't understand me all they see is the outer image, and most of them are too afraid to even speak to me. So if they make horrible rumours about me, i don;t care cause it normally just ends with people leaving me alone.

My main issue with high school is that the teachers pre-judge me to be a problem student when I'm nearly an A average student. I'm in grade 9 at the moment. And finding the science so easy, I really need to do an older grade in science, but thats kinda hard to organise cause it'll screw with my time table with the other subjects. so I understand why they won;t let me.

As for your sergestion...don;t do it. Come on, its only going to make it worse for other kids after you. Its just going to put so much stress on teachers thinking that every kid thats picked on is going to go and blow their class mates up. Theres enough of a steryotype of high school students as it is. This world doesn;t need another colinbine occurance.

when those guys are doing shit like that you've just gotta be strong. I mean don't let it keep happening but as skinwalker has said your reactions are giving them the fuel for this activity. but don;t get me wrong being picked on is not park of highschool no one shoulder have to experience that.
If your having difficulties with this teacher go to the head of department of that subject and have a chat with them.

If you are the oddball at school, one of two things will happen. Either you will give up and things will end in a disaster, or you'll see it for what it really is - that is you are surrounded by people who prod and poke at things they do not understand. Not a lot has has changed in the last 500 years has it! I remember not being 'accepted' by the crowd at one school and was bullied a few times. Just ignore it, do as well as you can, determine you will be better than them, and in a few years time when they apply to you for a job, tell em to go phuck emselves!

well, to take a different approach, and i know ill get a lotta shhh for this, but its what i believe, so ill put it out there.

Im in high school and im a junior, and through my life, its pretty much been smooth sailing.

Until seventh grade, i was a real nerdy kid, and once i got to seventh i really developed some social skills and, as i like to put it, blossemed.

now, being a junior, i hang out with jocks, stoners, preps, and wiggers. For those of you out of the high school thing, a wigger is a white guy believing he's black. Lots of those.

Anyway dude, verbal harassment is part of my everyday life. Each day i take sh*t from a whole bunch of people and i give it right back at em. Of course most of the time this is with my friends and is mainly in fair play, but sometimes i get made fun of, and its just shhh you gotta take man. It sounds bad, but for socialization to work, in my mind, you have to have your nerds your preps and goths and jocks and whatnot. Everybody gets made fun of by somebody, either in their face or behind their back.

to put it in a very blunt way, Suck it up, or give them shhh right back. Excluding homocidal violence of course. Fights are ok.

Maybe schooling should go strictly online? It's possible these days. Online, live classes(no more paper throwing). Is it practical?

However, I must think about how the public school environment is useful in teaching one how to adapt to situations. Because, life after school inevitably takes more adaptational skills. So, scratch the online idea.

I thank my aunt for telling me the story about the ninety or so hostages held in Tyran some years back. However the story, the hostages were all eventually set free. One hostage, a young man still in school, was asked what one thing helped him survive the matter. He replied by explaining how the public school environment had taught him how to adapt. So, he used these mind skills to adapt to the hostage situation. So, I guess the crap in school has a positive outcome. That is, if one sees it in this light.

Many years ago I turned up at school to discover everyone anxiously asking me whether or not it was true that my brother had built a bomb and was going to blow the school up that day. It caused quite a stir, and I'm still a bit jittery round police to this day, and that was over 25 years ago...

My brother was brilliant, and hated school. School doesn't suit everybody, and some schools don't suit anybody. My brother never really got over school and ended up taking up various noxious habits and died just before his 18th birthday from glue sniffing.

Now I have a son of my own and for most of his life I've been home-schooling him. After emigrating, we did try a local school for two months to try to integrate him but gave it up as a waste of time and too unbearable for my son. After taking him out, he expressed the opinion that had I sent him to school from an earlier age, perhaps he might have 'got used to it'. I explained about my brother and the bomb, and said that it was very likely that he would have hated it just as much no matter how young he was when he started. He looked a bit shocked, then a bit bashful, and then admitted that he'd spent most of his short time at school staring out the window dreaming of building a bomb to blow the place up.

Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that, as a mother, I would do anything to prevent history repeating itself and devote considerable amounts of time to home-schooling my son, now aged eleven. Is there *any* way you could do something similar? Homeschooling is allowed in most parts of the world, and it's got to better that suffering stupid 'teachers' who don't teach you anything but how to suffer.
