Hi everyone,
I am a computer science student about to start my sophomore year in college.
I've recently decided to buy a new laptop, which I will use primarily to:
- Take notes in class
- Carry my programming projects w/me between home, work, and school.

* Other than CS homework, I develop mostly in Java (Eclipse), C++ (Visual Studio), and currently will start learning Lotus Domino applciation development for work.

I am doing a lot of research and I think I will be going for a MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz or 2.5Ghz. I think I'll run OSX and WinXP natively, using boot-camp.

In addition, I have a Dell XPS desktop running WinXP at home with which I would like to play games and, more importantly, backup my desktop in some easy way.

1. What do you think about the MacBook Pro? Can you think about better laptops? Should I go w/a tablet PC maybe? Remember I need to both take notes AND write code on it for long hours.

2. How about a nice solution for my backup necessities? Maybe there's a better method that can be online? I mean, can I use my home desktop computer as a server and keep it on when I'm gone and then backup stuff on it through the internet when I'm going places w/my laptop?

All ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Im using a MacBook Pro, and it's good, you should get that, but make sure you have Leopard too, then your computer will be running faster.

Hello !
I have a MacBook Pro too and they are the best and very reliable. I never use anything other than Mac, either at home or at work (Mac OSX) and highly recommend them.
I'll let the experts answer your technical questions.
