Hi. My handle is CShark, short for CarpetShark. Little quiz: anyone know what a Carpetshark is ?

I am a med lab tech, with more years under my belt than I care to admit. Currently working in a federal lab, focussing on virology, immunology, a little chem and bacti as well. My hobbies are varied: British history, pre-history are probably my biggest passion, after playing and watching hockey. I've been programming since the days of the Vic20 (if you know what that is, you are showing your age!), and sell some of my software for extra 'pocket money'. I built myself an 8 inch Newtonian many years ago,(grinding the mirror as well) to get into astronomy.

You must think I am a MAJOR geek, but I can redeem myself a little. Played in a top-40 band for a number of years, lead guitar, then bass. When my kids came along, quit the band to teach guitar, as I worked in a private lab during the day, then thursday through sunday nights, was on the road...never home.

Moved from Ottawa to the east coast back in the 90's. Love it here: had the year's first lobster feed last night!!!

Looking forward to being a regular here. This is the first forum that has most of the 'topics' I have an interest in, as well as it seems to be moderated well.

Cheers

Here's what I found on Wikipedia:

Carpet sharks in pop culture:
* Used as derogatory term for lesbians

Real classy.....

either that or you think carpet sharks (the animals) are cool....

OR (and I think it's this one!) judging by your avatar, you LOVE ferrets!

anyway...

Welcome to the forum!

Thanks guys. ...Lesbians eh...never thought of that one. A carpetshark is a ferret, aka fuzzies. I have had three, two of which have passed on. The name probably originated from their apperance as they run across a floor: their backs tend to go up when excited. So Super, you are correct in your guess (the avatar kinda helped...).

Hey Kenny, where you from ?
Ch'town here.

It's "eh" not "hey" lol, it's derived from the French "Hein" Stick Out Tongue.

Hello from a bandwagon jumping Penguins fan. Which team are you rooting for now that the Canadian teams are all eliminated?

Here's what I found about carpet sharks on Wikipedia.
Quote:
The order Orectolobiformes, also collectively known as the carpet sharks because many members have carpet-like patterned markings, includes a number of familiar types of sharks, such as the nurse sharks and whale shark, as well as some unusual species, such as the blind shark.
