I think dreams are specific to each individual and dreams symbolize something about how your inner workings work. Obviously this dream symbolizes how feel about yourself dreaming hence the closed eyes while still being to see everything. Basically you're dreaming about dreaming and opening your eyes and waking up is just part of it.

Many times I've woken up just as something incredible was goi9ng to happen in a dream. I never get to that incredible part as I wake up just beforehand.

When I was a wee lad I used to have nightmares every night. Eventually I started to notice I could feel my eyes closed way high above me in the dream, and I could then pry them open and wake up. After my nightmares eventually went away with age, so did the the ability to feel my eyelids in my sleep.
