This morning, my brother was suffering from a bit of a bad hangover. He said he could not eat anything. But he did eat an orange anyway – and immediately afterwards he said he felt much better. His appetite returned in a flash, and he was eating normally again.
It seemed the orange cured his hangover in an instant. Well, can this be true in general – that oranges are good for hangovers? _________________

Most of the hangover is dehydration. An orange is mainly water.
Be a good sis and feed him a vitamin c pill next time. I'm curious to learn if it has any sudden effect. |

Dehydration is one of the causes, which is probably best reversed through drinking water.
The nausea and sweating symptoms are caused by acidosis, which probably isn't best cured with an orange, but who knows . |

i find that cola is good for a hangover : rehydration and caffein + sugar boost all in one, and in my experience without the diuretic effect of tea or coffee _________________ if you find this place too crowded or too confrontational, how about trying Philosophorum,

Before you go out my Dad told me that you should drink milk t line your stomach and eat a lot of bread to absorb the beer. He always manages to drink a shed load before he goes. He was in the army for 10 years though . _________________ "Victory is in trying. Defeat is in not". - SVRDW. |

i doubt whether that really makes much of a difference : having a full stomach may slow down the absorption of alcohol in the blood, but ultimately the liver has to handle whatever comes in, whatever the speed
on the other hand, too much alcohol can put the stomach on non-active, then you get that swimming feeling until you relieve your stomach by throwing up - at least that's one way of getting rid of some of the alcohol ... _________________ if you find this place too crowded or too confrontational, how about trying Philosophorum,

Yeh. Your liver can process a certain amount of alcohol per hour, so if the absorption rate into the bloodstream is lowered by a full stomach, your liver might be able to keep the blood-alcohol at acceptable levels (keep you from crashing your car ). Not sure about the rates of processing by the liver and absorption into the bloodstream (maybe lower with oily foods?) though _________________ "Gullibility kills" - Carl Sagan

if memory serves me right it's roughly 1 unit per hour _________________ if you find this place too crowded or too confrontational, how about trying Philosophorum,

The oranges have a Vitamin C which the syndrome of a hang-over very well removes. I often use vitamin C when I need to remove excessive influence of alcohol. |
