Hi Guys,

After reading about the very special terra preta (black soil) present in parts of the Amazon basin. I wondered if there was a possible link between this carbon rich soild and the huge missing meteor. Can carbon deposits be a by product of such an impact ?

Yes, may I echo BumFluff's query. Which missing meteor?
The impact in the Gulf of Mexico thought to have ended the dinosaurs generated sufficent heat that a firestorm is thought to have raged over much of the planet, leaving a distinctive layer of ash. This is quite different from the organically rich Terra petra(?) soils, based on the vanishingly little I know about them.
