Allright. So you've lived 20, 30, 40, 50, years, or however old you are. You go to sleep one night.
All of a sudden, you wake up. You're sitting in your 6th grade pre-algebra class and your teacher is mad at you for falling asleep during the lesson.
All up to x amount of years, your life has been a dream.
How would you feel?
Will the same thing happen as it happend in the dream?
Would you use your experience to make better choices? |

holy crap that would be weird... i think it'd make me really frustrated and impatient, because i would be so used to my 'life' as an 18 year old that if i were suddenly in 6th grade and 12, it'd be difficult, being limited to what i have then, when i've experienced what i have right now. if you see what i'm saying. Something else kind of on this topic... Jorge Luis Borges, who I am a huge fan of, has at least two writings on what kind of things we could dream at night, and then wake up, and never remember we dreamed. We could dream of how to find a cure for cancer, or when the world will end, or how we will die, or anything, and never know it. dreams are really something sometimes...

| You might wake up from your dream much more experientially smarter...possibly. Depending on the limits of the individual's brain at the time of the dream state. |

| I agree with Chemboy, after having a taste of post-18 would anyone want to go back?(I'm not 18+ yet so I am assuming) I'd be really frustrated. If you saw into your own future and then tried to change something you did wrong in your dream then you might be changing your entire life. So you most likely will have one chance to change one thing after that its all up in the air. This is if your dream was actually like some psychic vision or something. If not and this is just a dream then its a dream, nothing more nothing less. |

I think the problem with going back and 'sorting out past regrets' would be that you be changing the future, and therefore you couldnt predict what would happen. That would mean you would be doing new mistakes and creating new regrets. So I guess the only thing you can do is accept the past and focus on the future.
If you could keep going back say short moments back in time to change things, then life probably wouldn't be so fun... Or would it? |

Wow.. I would see it not as a 'do over' but as a new beginning. Gaining another 20 years of life, and getting a chance to make some choices I always wished I would have made-- looking back at the generic 12 year old.
First of all, I would take my studies more seriously, and get my academic act together early on, take the chance to start work on an early business plan so I could get a jump on it before I had bills and life to weigh me down.
aaaah, certainly I would give up my adult freedoms for a measly 6 years just to get a jump on some of those things.  |

Ok, so just a broad question. How many of you believe that when you were 6 you would have been able to dream about some of the experiences that you have had?
Think about it, Sex, Drugs, Womens Anatomy, at the age of 6 how much did you know about these things?
To dream something like that you would have to some idea about those things, It just wouldnt happen.
Therefore waking up from such a real dream like this would just be impossible, it is highly highly HIGHLY improbable that one knew all that they know now at the age of 6.
Personally, assuming it was possible, If i did wake up from such a dream I wouldn't consider it a 'do over'. To be honest, at that age I would completly disregard the whole dream and be more worried about why i was being shouted at.
I dunno, just my 2 cents...I got more, but its too much to type.

I suspect the original question was about 6th grade, not 6 years old. So perhaps we're talking about an 11 or 12 year old, with far more scope for all sorts of pubescent, or pre-pubescent fantasising. |
