Not sure where to post this as it can cover all sciences.

but in your opinion what are the 10 most important scientific studies and publications of the 20th and 21st century.
Could you also put the level of accesibility of the book, if i need a degree in the subject to understand it there isn't much point in me reading it.

thanks

  1. Modular elliptic curves and Fermat’s Last Theorem, A. Wiles. (The most miraculous proof in the history of mathematics – but don’t try and read it all at once. Old Fermat was right: the whole proof would never have fit the margin of any page.)

  2. Zur Elektrodynamik bewegter Körper (“On the Electrodynamics of moving Bodies”), A. Einstein. (In German. English translation: E=mc^2.)

  3. A Structure for Deoxyribose Nucleic Acid, J.D. Watson and F.H.C. Crick.

  4. Les Objets fractals: forme, hasard, et dimension (“Fractal objects: form, randomness, and dimension”), B. Mandelbrot. (The work in which the term “fractal” was first coined.)

  5. Stabilité structurelle et morphogénèse (“Structual stability and morphogenesis”), R. Thom. (The pioneering work on catastrophe theory.)

  6. Die gegenwärtige Situation in der Quantenmechanik (“The present Situation in Quantum Mechanics”), E. Schrödinger.

  7. Tractatus logico-philosophicus, L. Wittgenstein.

  8. Theory of Games and Economic Behavior, J. von Neumann.

  9. Naive Set Theory, P.R. Halmos.

  10. Science for Dummies. (Written specially for people like organic god, who couldn’t get a stroke of genius even if he was giving Einstein a handjob.)
